I've been quite excited (not obsessed... ) about Jonas Gustavsson, 24 year old Swedish goalie currently playing in Färjestads, in Elitserien (the highest league in Sweden). Gustavsson, or "The Monster" as his coach calls him, had rather impressive season with 0.932 save % and 1,96 GAA. Oh and he played even better in the playoffs with .979 save % and and put a new record for consecutive shutouts (240 minutes and 25 seconds). And he totally owned HV 71 in the finals, which Färjestad won 4-1.
Since he hasn't been drafted, he can choose whatever team he wants in NHL. And according to aftonbladet, Toronto Maple Leafs (yei!!) and Dallas Stars (boo) are the strongest competitors for this late bloomer's services.
Apparently Gustavsson wish to sign with team where he can develope his own style and is not forced to change the way he plays tradically.
The list of team that are said to be after Monster is long and includes some surpises. At least for me.
- Anaheim Ducks
- Colorado Avalanche
- Columbus Blue Jackets
- Dallas Stars
- Edmonton Oilers
- Montreal Canadiens
- Minnesota Wild
- New York Rangers
- Philadelphia Flyers
- Pittsburgh Penguins
- San José Sharks
- St Louis Blues
- Tampa Bay Lightning
- Toronto Maple Leafs
- Vancouver Canucks.
Even though I truly enjoy Toskala's interviews and stuff, I think Leafs would be a great home for Gustavsson.
I ♥ that LOL pic...
ReplyDeleteThe Caps got Varlamov, so nyet on hoarding all the potentially good European players. Unless of course Ovechkin decides to mosey on over to the Leafs...along with Semin 'cause they're you know, best friends.
ReplyDeleteAND we'll get you over to the Leafs side. ;)
@ blurr - hi! I and the rum are doing our best here... :)
ReplyDelete@ bkblades - hi to you too! didn't you know that we have like this privilege to all top European players? ;) And if you sign Semin I will totally bandwagon to Leafs.. ehrr, seriously consider this whole favourite team thingy... :)
