So Burke decided to screw everyone's lazy Sunday and started a trade fest. First there was Hagman, Stajan, Mayers and White to Calgary for Phaneuf, Aulie and Sjöström (hands up if you can name one fact about the last two dudes, no cheating). This was like bitch slap because I really hate Phaneuf. And I like Leafs. I would've honestly rather watch Sundin to make a comeback, win the Olympic gold by slaughtering Finland in the finals and then to win the SC and Worlds. Yes, in the same year. Because time travelling is like sooo hot right now.
And it's like 108 points for 28 but whatevs.
Was Bure done after that? Nope. Next was Blake and Toskala to Anaheim for Giguere. This makes muchos sense for Leafs, kinda sense to Ducks but in case Hiller gets injured... oy.
Btw, I tried to pronounce "Giguere"... I think I pulled my tongue. Is it supposed to be pronounced Spanish style?
Anyways, I believe the Calgary trade was because of the Olympics. This all was planned by the evil forces... ehr, mastersminds of Finnish national team.
Before this season Koivu signed with Ducks. To be able to play with his old pal Teemu? Yes. To play the season with his upcoming Olympic line mate? Oh yes. You know, it always helps when the players have found the connection before the games so they don't have gamble with the lines. And this leads us to this trade. Hagman was traded to Calgary so he could play with Jokinen and those two could get their act together and kick ass in February.
And no, there's no need to thank me for this brilliant explanation.

When NHL makes you happy, Finnish Elite League makes you sad
Also known as Jokerit apparently got Nylander.
/sleza smash
Okay, so this would be good for Capitals since they got rid off his salary. This parts makes me relatively happy about this transaction. BUT HOW DID HE DARE TO CHOOSE A TEAM I LOATHE????
(They also signed former Leafs Bates Battaglia. FML)
Jokerit finish the season being better than HIFK and you mister get into my list... And I don't mean the good one.
Meanwhile, the good news are that Caps have been rolling and Semin has been scoring multiply points. Also Thrashers have played slightly better and both Selänne and Koivu have said they'll be playing in Olympics.

Bad Romance
Aka, 5 reasons why I love hockey. And yes, this idea is shamelessly stolen from Puck Daddy and done with max half of the effort those writers did...
1. Finland (vs. Sweden)
Vi ska ta guld igen, baby!
There's nothing like nationalist rivalry between two small countries over a sport. Especially since my country usually forgets to show up. Ahem.
Seriously though, for me the most breathtaking hockey moments have been delivered by my national team. I'm pretty sure I didn't breathe for 60 minutes during Torino Olympic final. The emotion and passion included can either get you into 7th heaven or drive you to the edge of the nearest cliff depending on the outcome.
I know I always mock my team, threating to dump them, but in reality, they are my team and always will be. Can't leave them even if I wanted. They can lift me high above the clouds, they can drop me to the deepest corner of despair. It is an ultimate love/hate affair but I can't think any other team I could take the emotional bitch slaps to face for the few good moments.
2. World Championship
I know it's not the most valued hockey tournament and seen as spring hobby for the unlucky ones who have already lost their chances to the Cup. But Worlds were the first hockey games I saw (mostly thanks to my dad who doesn't care about hockey outside of the national team) and fell in love with. Olympics did have something to do with that too but since they're held only once in 4 years, Worlds were and are the way to see your team to fight and to see top players and pick favourites. And those competitions are the reason I started to pay attention to NHL in the first place. I wanted to see my carefully selected favs (read, the whole team Russia and few Slovaks) in action more often than once in a year, if even that. And since I'm probably not alone with this, NHL should really think twice before banning the Olympics from the players.
3. The art-esque beauty ft. roughness
There are not too many sports that can honestly be said to feature both breathtaking beauty and toothdropping toughness. But those both can be found in hockey. No one with functional eyes can deny the fact that at the best, the way world's top scorer can handle the puck while using dmen as slalom sticks before fooling the goalie is almost a piece of art. And no one can deny that hockey wouldn't get rough at times. Seriously though, hard, clean hits add spice to the game and are vital part of it.
4. Blogs
I really haven't read any other sport blogs but I have feeling that hockey blogs are among the best ones if not the best. There are so many of them that can bring you the information with personality, wittyness and fun. Well, in some cases, at least wittyness and fun if not info ;)
Since many of the blogs concentrate mostly to just one team, they tend to have more stories to share than the old media. At least the media I have to live with... But I guarantee, you will never learn as much about a team than by reading a good blog dedicated to it. And with luck, you even start to care about team you were meh about if you find great blog about it. Or at least hate it less if you see that the fans aren't jerks.
Also, it was very nice to find other hockey loving females out there. Who just happens to write some of the best blogs I know. Women do it better... and you know it :P
(Not turning this into a link fest due to a limit space and time)
5. It's educational
Seriously, there's no way I could follow hockey the way I do without English (and to some level, Swedish) knowledge. Of course this doesn't apply to North Americans but who cares.
Also, following the blogs have taught me so much more about N. American cultures and how Americans and Canadians see things. Because it usually is different from the way I see those. (Though, to be honest, my knowledge about North Americans was quite pathetic so it is rather easy to upgrade that. If all the jokes we make about USA isn't counted...)
PS. After I started to wrote this both Selänne and Koivu got injured and there's a chance neither of them will be in Vancouver so hockey can just kiss my ass and go to hell...

Still alive - Updated
Kinda. Though, I lost my will to live after reading this:
Seriously, kill me now.
So, less than day after Selänne broke his jaw, the older Koivu had to leave the game agains Kings because of "lower body injury". ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?????
The Ducks won again but they likely lost Teemu Selanne for anywhere from four to eight weeks due to a broken jaw
Seriously, kill me now.
Captain down, captain down...
